"To the Law and to the Testimony"

The phrase To the Law and to the Testimony! is used as a motto to encourage Bible-based thinking, but it is by no means a guarantee that the first to proclaim it, or the loudest, necessarily understands the Bible correctly. The phrase itself appears to be based on a serious misinterpretation of the meaning of the verse from which it is taken — see at Isaiah 8:20.

Use of the phrase as a motto against respecting extra-Biblical authorities goes back to the early pages of Elpis Israel by Dr John Thomas.

Typical examples of its use can be found at The Bible Says God Did Not Use Evolution! — a production of "The Christadelphian Watchman" or http://bibletruthandprophecy.com/ and in the "Reaffirmation Statement Concerning Creation and the Fall of Man" of the IEAC.
