The Hellenistic World

The people of the Bible truly lived "between Mesopotamia and Egypt" in Old Testament times, and this is reflected in the Bible's view of the natural world. This understanding survived right up to the 12th Century AD — when it was the assumption of both sides in the debate about where the Sun goes during the night.
