BibleOld TestamentGenesis

KJV

11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven* were opened.

NRSV

11 In the six-hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens* were opened.

* NB: "heaven" or "the heavens" in this verse and similar passages is shamayim, more general than the "firmament" (sky) or dome of the sky  which was believed to separate the "waters above", which is raqia.

See R Evans, Genesis in Context - 2, The Firmament, The Windows of Heaven.
