BibleNew TestamentJames
KJV

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

This passage was referenced here (3.2.4) in our responses to the AACE discussion question "What does the Bible say about the entry of sin and death into the world so far as man is concerned?"

A question of logic

"lust → sin → death"
This is true, just as James describes it; but is it inevitable? Is lust ever denied, or frustrated?

"death ⊢ sin" [1]
(i.e. if there is death, there must have been sin that led to it)
This is not true. The Lord Jesus died, without sin; living things that are incapable of sin die.
