17 Sanctify them in the truth; thy word is truth.
These words of the Lord Jesus in Gethsemane are appropriated here in an attack on evolution-friendly readings of Scripture, with the assumption that the writer's literalist readings are not only correct but "the truth".
John 12:49-50 is treated in a similar way.
