Evolution – Fact or fantasy? Submission No 1 - Introduction

The exercise being undertaken by the Sutherland ecclesia relates to Science and the bible. True science will not contradict the bible, but the question which needs to be addressed is whether Evolution is actually true science? Yes, in respect to evolution, proper science is used to collect some data, such as the capture of uranium atoms to determine decay rates, but when the data collected is interpreted to try and age rocks, artefacts, bones etc millions, and in some case billions of years it will be shown that the definition of true science is no longer applicable to evolution.

Many scientists do NOT regard evolution as true science, but rather they see it as a philosophy, which can be defined as; “a particular system of thought based on such study or investigation” (Dictionary.com) It lines up more, with the thinking of Acts 17:16 – the philosophers, and 1 Timothy 6:20 – the opposition to the Truth which the apostle Paul styles, “profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called”, than a science which can be defined as; “systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation.” (Dictionary.com). Acts 17:16 – we have the philosophers, in 1 Timothy 6:20 – we see the opposition to the Truth which the apostle Paul styles, “profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called”. The original word for ‘science’ is the Greek word, ‘gnosis’ which means knowledge. So what we have is a philosophy which is based on the thinking of man, in respect to their personal investigation, rather than a science which is based on observation and experimentation. It is aimed to show quite clearly that evolution is NOT a science.

The brotherhood has rejected the idea of evolution as opposed to the simple teaching of the genesis account of creation. In recent times brethren and sisters have felt that the scientific methods associated with evolution are proficient enough to conclude that evolution is a fact, not a theory. As such it is then attempted to reconcile the bible with evolution. If we were to examine the definition of a, ‘fact’ and a ‘theory’ then we will find that evolution can only be considered as an idea – not a fact not even a theory, but just an idea that people had which has been taken up by society.

Was Darwin the first to come up with his ideas – No – the ancient Greeks had similar ideas long before Darwin was born. The idea of evolution was noted by the Greeks in Ionia in modern day Turkey in the 6th century BC. The Greeks argued that at one point man didn't exist, but changed over time from fish to human. It was suggested that at one point in time the earth was covered in water for a long period of time. The earth was thought to have been formed by water. There is nothing new under the sun. It could not be proved by the ancient Greeks, and we will show that it cannot be proved by the evolution fraternity today.

The idea of evolution is full of assumptions. Assumptions are needed because they do not have facts to back it up. There are basic assumptions and there are further assumptions needed for the formulas to work to try and date rocks, bones etc.

Simply this tells us that evolution is not based on fact but rather, assumptions, guesses or whatever the proponent declares it to be.
