To the Reader

How we arrived at the starting line is not important. What matters is running the race and claiming the prize.

“Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

“In Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. All that matters is faith, expressed through love. You were running so well. Who has obstructed you?”

The purpose of this book is to remove stumbling stones, not to place more. If it increases your faith, then it has achieved its purpose. If not, set it aside, and keep running.

This discussion document begins and ends with the unchallenged premise that the Bible, from beginning to end, is the inspired Word of God.

In examining the nature of that inspiration through context and genre it seeks to comprehend and to confirm God’s Message.

It is not a book of answers, but a book of ideas.

The challenge to all readers is to set aside all preconceptions and to search the Scriptures openly and honestly, to see “whether these things be so”.

Further Note. For those wishing to consult an authoritative and scholarly appraisal of Genesis, the NIV Application Commentary on Genesis (2001) is recommended.
