 * In the Matthew reading the Lord Jesus combines two references to the Hebrew Bible: Psalm 78:2 and Proverbs 8:22-31. His reference to "things kept secret from the foundation of the world" in Proverbs 8:22-31, KJV — also translated from, or since, the creation of the world)</ref> is echoed elsewhere in the New Testament — see references at Before the foundation of the world. These passages are a defence against thinking of Jesus Christ as merely the solution to a problem caused by our ancestors after the creation of the world.
