Phenomenological Language
From Reconciling understandings of Scripture and Science
There is no error in saying "What a beautiful sunset!" and there are good reasons not to exclaim "How beautiful the sky is as the earth's rotation causes the sun to go out of sight!"
"Sunset" is phenomenological language — that is, it describes the event as it appears to us. This is a natural aspect of all languages. It is not an error, even if it reflects an underlying false belief or assumption.
