“Sun, stand still at Gibeon,
and Moon, in the valley of Aijalon.”
13And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped,
until the nation took vengeance on their enemies.Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in midheaven, and did not hurry to set for about a whole day. 14There has been no day like it before or since, when the LORD heeded a human voice; for the LORD fought for Israel.

This passage illustrates the geocentric language of the Bible, assuming that the sun and moon move around the earth. This is contrary to the heliocentric model accepted by modern science: the Bible is using Phenomenological Language here. Such contradictions between Scripture and modern science are real, but not always appreciated: if the science is correct, then there must be an error in the Bible; but the simplest response for a Bible believer is to assume that there must be an error in the science. Tragically we now find that even amongst the ranks of supposedly Bible based communities, including Christadelphians, we have determined attempts being made to make science and the Bible harmonise. This inevitably means re-interpreting the Bible to accommodate scientific conclusions.
